The Human Design Inner Authorities

Authority says what in the body makes the decision — not what you think about the matter. It is determined by which centres are defined in you, and it is the most practical thing in the whole system: usable from tomorrow, and it needs no one else.

AuthorityWhat decides
Emotional authorityYour decisions ripen over time.
Sacral authorityYour body answers before your head does — an inner “uh-huh” (yes) or “un-un” (no), a pull or resistance in your gut.
Splenic authorityYour truth is a quiet, instant instinct — a subtle whisper that does not repeat itself.
Ego authority (manifested)Your will speaks for itself — listen to what comes out of you spontaneously when you talk about your plans.
Ego authority (projected)Decide from the heart and your own interest — the question is: “What is in it for me? Do I want to put my will into this?” It may sound selfish, but for you it is healthy: when your heart truly wants something, that is the right path.
Self-projected authorityYour truth reveals itself when you speak.
Mental authority (environment)You have no inner authority in the body — your clarity comes from outside: from the right environment and from conversations.
Lunar authorityAs a Reflector you decide with the Moon.

Emotional authority

Your decisions ripen over time. Your emotions move in a wave — never decide at its peak or its bottom. Sleep on it, wait for the wave to settle; the truth is what remains when the emotion passes. “There is no truth in the now.”

Sacral authority

Your body answers before your head does — an inner “uh-huh” (yes) or “un-un” (no), a pull or resistance in your gut. The answer arrives now, in the moment, in response to a direct question. Trust it more than long deliberation.

Splenic authority

Your truth is a quiet, instant instinct — a subtle whisper that does not repeat itself. The first impulse in the moment is the right one; if you drown it out with reasoning, it is gone. It is the authority of survival: it knows what is healthy and safe for you.

Ego authority (manifested)

Your will speaks for itself — listen to what comes out of you spontaneously when you talk about your plans. The question is: “Do I truly want this? Is my heart in it?” If yes, your will can carry it through. Never promise what your heart does not want.

Ego authority (projected)

Decide from the heart and your own interest — the question is: “What is in it for me? Do I want to put my will into this?” It may sound selfish, but for you it is healthy: when your heart truly wants something, that is the right path.

Self-projected authority

Your truth reveals itself when you speak. Don’t decide in your head — talk things through with people you trust and listen to your own voice. What comes out of you when you speak aloud tells you where your true self is heading.

Mental authority (environment)

You have no inner authority in the body — your clarity comes from outside: from the right environment and from conversations. Talk decisions through aloud with people close to you — not for their advice, but to hear yourself. And take your time.

Lunar authority

As a Reflector you decide with the Moon. Let a big decision ripen through a full lunar cycle (~28 days) — each day shows you a different perspective. Talk it over with people you trust and watch what settles within you.
