The 27 Nakshatras — Lunar Mansions

A nakshatra is a lunar mansion — one twenty-seventh of the sidereal zodiac, exactly 13°20′. Each divides into four padas of 3°20′. In Jyotish it describes character more finely than a sign, which is why the system of planetary periods (dasha) is derived from it.
