The Nine Centres and Their States

A centre is defined when you have your own steady source of that energy, and open when you absorb and amplify the energy around you. Open centres are not a flaw — they are where you learn to tell what is yours.

CentreChakraWhen definedWhen open
Head (inspiration)Sahasrara (crown)You have your own steady source of questions and inspiration — your mind presses toward meaning at its own pace. You absorb the questions and thoughts of others. Careful: not every question pressing on you is yours. Wisdom: discerning which thoughts deserve attention.
Ajna (mind)Ajna (third eye)You have a fixed way of processing and formulating thoughts — your opinions are consistent.Your thinking is fluid — you can see things from many sides. You don’t need a fixed opinion on everything; your open mind is a gift, not a weakness.
Throat (expression)Vishuddha (throat)Your voice has a steady character — you speak and act in a consistent way, and people hear you.Your expression shifts with the company you keep. Don’t force speech or attention — you sound strongest when others invite you to speak.
G centre (identity & direction)Anahata (heart axis of identity)You have a solid core of identity and direction — you know who you are, independent of your surroundings.Your identity is fluid — the places and people around you shape you. That is why being in the right places with the right people is crucial; environment is your compass.
Heart / Ego (willpower)Manipura (will)You have consistent willpower and a natural sense of worth — you can promise and deliver, and set your price. You don’t have consistent willpower — and you have nothing to prove. Don’t push yourself into promises and competition; your worth does not depend on performance.
Solar Plexus (emotions)the emotional body (water element of Svadhisthana)Your emotions move in their own wave — they are both your motor and your authority. Decide nothing big at the peak or the bottom of the wave. You absorb and amplify the emotions around you — someone else’s anger or joy can feel like your own. Your wisdom: telling apart what is yours and what you merely mirrored.
Sacral (life force)Svadhisthana (sacral)You have a renewable source of work and life energy — doing what you love recharges you.You don’t have steady working energy — you absorb and amplify the energy of others, which is why you don’t know “when enough is enough”. Rest is not laziness; it is your hygiene.
Spleen (instinct)the instinctive body (splenic wisdom)You have a steady instinct for health and safety — a quiet radar that warns and reassures you in the moment. The fears and insecurities of others resonate more strongly in you. Don’t hold on to things or people just because letting go feels scary — your wisdom is knowing which fear is real.
Root (pressure & drive)Muladhara (root)You have a steady inner drive — a pressure to act that you can carry at your own rhythm. You take on the pressure of your surroundings — other people’s to-do lists and haste feel like your own. Remember: that stress is not yours, and there will never be a moment when “everything is done”. Ease the pace.
